Woman who stabbed boyfriend with sword sentenced to 19 years

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A Washington state woman who tried to stab her live-in boyfriend to death with a samurai sword because she believed he was unfaithful and spent too much time playing video games has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Emily Javier, 31, was sentenced Monday in Clark County Superior Court for attempted first-degree domestic violence murder in the March 3, 2018, attack.

Deputy Prosecutor Anna Klein had asked for 20 years, stating the amount of premeditation that went into the attack was "huge and probably more than the court has ever seen."

The Columbian reports that Javier told investigators that about a week before the attack, she found evidence that her 29-year-old boyfriend was cheating on her, including seeing the dating app Tinder on his cellphone.
