7 injured after suspected impaired driver hits snow plow, car on Interstate 5

LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- All southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were blocked in Lynnwood Sunday morning after a suspected DUI driver hit a snow plow, then crossed a median and hit another car head-on, according to Washington State Patrol.

Troopers say the driver hit a WSDOT vehicle, which was treating northbound lanes of I-5 near 164th Street Southwest, before crossing into the southbound HOV lane and colliding with the third vehicle.

A fourth vehicle hit debris from the crash.

Seven people were taken to the hospital following the crash. The driver of the snow plow was evaluated at the scene and released.

The causing driver, a 23-year-old Lake Stevens woman, is in custody and suspected of impaired driving, according to investigators.

Weather at the time of the incident is not believed to have played a role.

Southbound lanes were blocked for nearly five hours, with traffic diverting off the interstate at 128th Street Southwest.

All lanes reopened shortly before 9:30 a.m.
