Semi carrying live chickens crashes on I-5

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A semi carrying live chickens crashed on I-5 early this morning.

The jackknifed tractor trailer was still blocking lanes on both sides of the interstate in Olympia at 7 a.m. Monday. It happened hours earlier near Eastside Street, just after 4 a.m.

Washington State Patrol said the semi hit a jersey barrier after driving over an icy part of the road.

Several chickens died in the accident, while others were injured.

Road crews are trying to round up some of the loose birds around the crash scene.

No other vehicles were involved, and no injuries were reported.
