Woman killed in suspected DUI crash in Pierce Co.

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. -- Authorities say a man is in custody Tuesday after a deadly three-vehicle crash in Pierce County.

The crash happened at Sumner Tapps Highway E. and 162nd Avenue. The Pierce County Sheriff's Office says a vehicle driven by 65-year-old Margo Sabater was stopped to make a left turn when she was hit from behind by another vehicle.

Her car went into another lane and was hit by a third vehicle.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Officials say a male passenger in her vehicle was hospitalized in critical condition.

The driver who struck her vehicle from behind, a man from Bonney Lake, was also injured and taken to the hospital. He was believed to be driving under the influence and is expected to face charges, the sheriff's office said.

Two teenagers were hospitalized with moderate injuries after the crash, officials said.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash.
