Lakewood Police release names of officers who killed man after he charged at them with knife

LAKEWOOD, Wash. (AP) — Police have released the names of three officers who shot and killed a man who they say charged at them with a knife early Sunday in Lakewood.

Lakewood Police Lt. Chris Lawler said Tuesday the officers involved were Jason Catlett, John Babcock and Jonathon Beard.

Police say the officers responded to a caller saying a man was in his apartment with a knife.

Police say when officers arrived, a man charged at them with a knife.

The officers fired, hitting the suspect, who died at the scene.

Police say the man who charged at officers turned out to be the man who called police. Investigators believe no one else was in the apartment and he had described himself.

The officers are now on administrative leave.
