Woman pulled from submerged car at the Redondo boat launch

DES MOINES, Wash. -- A woman was pulled from a submerged car at the Redondo boat launch Sunday.

South King Fire & Rescue said dive teams pulled an unconscious woman out of the car. She was in critical condition and taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Authorities say she appeared to be in her 30s.

At 7:20 p.m., emergency officials received several reports that a person was inside a Lexus when it drove into the water at the boat launch.

South King County Assistant Fire Chief Vic Pennington said a witness and a police officer went into the water before first responders arrived.

Ten to 15 minutes later dive teams from Renton and Valley Regional pulled the woman out of the car.

"We’ve had this happen here and in the Des Moines Marina," Pennington told Q13 News.

He added it's unclear why this car went into the water. "Over the years we’ve had vehicles go into the water for various reasons."

Des Moines Police, King County Medic One, the Renton Fire Department and Valley Regional Fire assisted with the water rescue.
