Prosecutors drop some charges against ex-Bellevue cop

BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) — A former Bellevue police officer has been released from jail after prosecutors dropped several charges against him in a continuing domestic violence case.

KING-TV reports 48-year-old John Kivlin left jail Tuesday.

The King County Prosecutor's Office filed new court documents Tuesday dropping charges of witness tampering and violation of a protection order.

Those charges came from an August arrest in which Kivlin allegedly sent multiple messages to an ex-girlfriend.

The newest court documents say the state dropped those charges after a search of Kivlin's phone was conducted and billing records were reviewed.

Kivlin is still facing charges of assault, tampering with a witness and two counts of violation of a court order in the case. Kivlin was on paid leave after his initial arrest in April, but Bellevue Police have said he has since resigned.
