Washington state man sentenced in machete attack on wife

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- A Washington state man convicted in a machete attack on his estranged wife and another man was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports 52-year-old Eric Woody was sentenced Monday in Skagit County Superior Court after pleading guilty to first-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

According to court documents, Woody had forced his way into a Bay View home in March 2017, attacking Rhonda Polinder and Michael Rash.

Polinder's left hand was nearly severed from her arm, and she had a cut from the top of her head to her jawline. Doctors later amputated a portion of her left arm.

According to the documents, Rash had severe cuts to his head and arm as well as numerous abrasions.
