'Deadliest Catch' star pays to settle Uber driver lawsuit

SEATTLE  — Celebrity crab-boat captain Sig Hansen has paid an undisclosed sum of money to get an Uber driver to drop a lawsuit related to Hansen's assault of the driver after a night of drinking in Seattle last year.

The Seattle Times reports the 52-year-old "Deadliest Catch" star declined to comment this week about the settlement.

Seattle lawyer Harry Schneider wrote in an email that Uber driver Waheed Lawal and his wife, Tara Lawal, have asked that the amount of the financial settlement not be disclosed.

Lawal's lawsuit was filed in August 2017, three months after the Uber driver's encounter with Hansen and his family.

Prosecutors say Hansen screamed at and spit in the driver's face and dented his car after learning he couldn't pay cash for his family's ride home.

Hansen pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in May as part of a deal with prosecutors.
