Shooting that left 3 men wounded in Burien was not a drive-by, police say

BURIEN, Wash. -- A shooting that was reported as a drive-by Sunday night in Burien turned out to be an accidental shooting, police said Monday.

Three men, ages 19, 20 and 21, reported that they were walking on 1st Ave SW at 8:00 p.m. when they were shot at by suspects in a white car.

But after an investigation by the King County Sheriff's Office, it was determined that there had not been a drive-by shooting at all.

"They later admitted that all three of the males were driving in Burien, one was playing around with a handgun in the back seat," said Sgt. Ryan Abbott. "One of the males accidently fired the handgun, striking all three of the male’s legs while seated in the rear of the car. The occupants of the car panicked and drove to a nearby doctor’s office that was closed. One of the doors to the doctor’s office was left unsecured and the males got inside where they called 911. It is unknown exactly where the incident actually took place but Deputies continue to investigate."

All three men are expected to make a full recovery.

Abbott said it was unclear where the accidental shooting actually took place.

The shooting remains under investigation.
