19-year-old likely paralyzed after diving at Snake River

LEWISTON, Idaho  — A 19-year-old Lewiston, Idaho, man likely will be paralyzed after hitting his head in the Snake River while diving at Hells Gate State Park.

The Lewiston Tribune reports that Nez Perce County sheriff's deputies responded at about 8 p.m. Thursday to the park after it was reported Zack Moore had hit his head.

Reports said Moore was unconscious but was pulled ashore. Moore told first responders he had no feeling below his neck. He was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.

A hospital spokeswoman said Moore was in fair condition on Friday.

Moore's father says his son was out with friends and several were jumping into the river. Josh Moore said no alcohol was involved.

Moore said it appears his son will be permanently paralyzed from the chest down.
