'Man in crisis' taken into custody after 6-hour standoff in Seattle

SEATTLE -- A major road in north Seattle was closed to all traffic Monday as an hours-long standoff took place at an apartment complex.

The standoff came to an end just before 1:00 p.m. and the suspect was taken into custody.

"This was a sensitive incident involving shots fired," officers wrote in a tweet. "Officers are working to reopen Lake City Way. We understand this incident created significant delays and appreciate everyone's continued patience."

Seattle police around 7:00 a.m. said officers were investigating reports of shots fired. Witnesses told dispatchers that a man had been shooting a pistol from the deck of his apartment.

The SWAT team was called to the scene and negotiators were trying to get the "man in crisis" to surrender to authorities.

The Seattle Department of Transportation said around 7:00 a.m. that Lake City Way NE was closed from NE 113th Street to NE 110th Street.

Lake City Way was expected to reopen sometime Monday afternoon.
