ROCKAWAY BEACH, Ore.  — The U.S. Coast Guard says a 17-year-old boogie boarder is missing off the Oregon coast west of Portland, and his father was found dead after going into the water to try to save him.

The agency said Wednesday afternoon it had helicopter crews looking for the teen. His stepmother called 911 around 2:20 p.m. after she lost sight of him as well as his 50-year-old father. Authorities said the father identified as Robert Joseph Allen, from Fort Collins, Colorado was found about 45 minutes later. But he did not survive.
