Seattle's MoPOP looks to open second museum in New York City

NEW YORK (AP) — Museum officials for the Seattle-based Museum of Pop Culture say they are looking to expand to New York City.

Officials say the New York museum would occupy a Manhattan building that is currently home to New York Public Library's Science, Industry and Business Library. The Wall Street Journal reports the building was purchased in 2016 by an affiliate company of museum founder Paul Allen, who also co-founded Microsoft.

Museum board Vice President Chris McGowan says the New York museum is expected to open in about four years, and the library will remain in the space until construction starts.

NYPL officials say that library's services will be then absorbed into the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, which is slated to reopen in 2020.
