The Washington State Patrol said one person was killed and three people were injured, one critically, in a six-vehicle crash that blocked both directions of the Hood Canal Bridge on Thursday evening.

Five passenger vehicles and one unloaded flatbed truck were involved, State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger tweeted. A total of seven people were involved in the crash, he said. Of the three injured, one was critical, one was serious and one had a minor injury, he said.

Later, Trooper Mark Hodgson said a gray GMC Sierra pickup truck was reported to be weaving across lanes before it got to the bridge just before 5 p.m. Once on the bridge, the eastbound Sierra crossed the center line and struck several vehicles before colliding head-on with a Ford Ranger, whose driver was killed.

The driver of the Sierra was critically injured and airlifted to a hospital, Hodgson said.

"Alcohol or drug impairment is suspected" of the Sierra driver because of the way he was reported driving, Hodgson said.

The bridge was closed in both directions at 5 p.m. and was still closed at 11 p.m.
