Highway renamed in honor of Kitsap County Deputy Dennis Allred

BREMERTON, Wash. -- A Western Washington highway has been renamed in honor of a deputy who was killed in the line of duty.

Kitsap County Sheriff Gary Simpson says it's important to recognize and remember the sacrifices of men and women in law enforcement -- especially given the violence against police lately.

Simpson made the remarks at a memorial dedication for Deputy Sheriff Dennis Allred who was killed in the line of duty 40 years ago.

Deputy Allred was shot and killed as he investigated a stolen vehicle.  The street where it happened was renamed in his honor on April 19.

Three people went to prison in connection with his death. Two of them have been released and the third is still locked up.
