Helping seniors with emergency preparedness kits

GIG HARBOR, Wash. --  Safety experts often advise families to keep an emergency preparedness kit in your home.

That's easy for many of us, but what about those who have a tough time putting a kit together?

Here's one solution: A group of high school students and senior residents at Heron's Key in Gig Harbor spent some time creating emergency preparedness kits for

low-income seniors, who couldn't normally put a kit together.

Participants say it was also a nice way to connect the younger and older generations through community service.

Now that the kits have been created, they're going to the local food bank which will distribute them to seniors who need them most in the Gig Harbor area.
