71-year-old woman pistol-whipped, shot during home invasion robbery in South Seattle

SEATTLE -- A 71-year-old woman was pistol-whipped and shot during a home invasion robbery in South Seattle Tuesday, the Seattle Police Department said.

The victim, who was shot in the shoulder, was rushed to the hospital in serious but stable condition, authorities said.

Shortly before 4 p.m., there was a report of a home invasion robbery in the 10700 block of Renton Avenue South.

Seattle police Capt. Kevin Grossman told Q13 News that an elderly man was gardening in his yard when two men approached and asked him for money. The men following him into his house, where an altercation occurred and the man's 71-year-old wife was shot in the shoulder, Grossman said.

Officers were searching for two suspects. Police said the first suspect was described as a light-skinned black male in his late teens. He was described as 6-foot,  wearing a white jacket and white pants and armed with a black handgun. The second suspect was also described as a light-skinned black teen, 5-foot-6, skinny, wearing a blue jacket and dark pants. He has a mustache.

The suspects were last seen running southbound from the house.
