"He'll be out harassing us again in just a few more years," says victim after bomb-building burglar sentenced in Skagit County

SKAGIT COUNTY -- The man who led officers on multiple chases after he was accused of everything from assault to building bombs to burglary to stealing firearms and vehicles has pleaded guilty to 43 felony counts.

Curtis Cameron was sentenced today a little more than 8 years and three months in prison but one of his victims says that's not enough.

"People work hard and for someone to go on a crime spree and then blame it on,  'Oh, I had a bad childhood' is not fair.  With credit for time served, he's already been in jail for a year and half at least, almost two years so you're looking at six years with time off for good behavior, he'll be out harassing us again in just a few more years," said Mary Sodawasser.

Cameron's attorney said he is remorseful for his actions.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- A 26-year-old Washington's Most Wanted fugitive was arrested after he was found in a tree Monday evening, ending  a manhunt that prompted precautionary lockdowns at Skagit Valley College and Centennial School.

Authorities confirmed Curtis Cameron was in custody shortly after 6:30 p.m. He was up a tree wearing only a pair of shorts after running about five miles through the woods and swimming through a river.

"It feels good," Skagit County Sheriff's Chief of Field Services Chad Clark said. "Now we don't have to chase him anymore. Every time we'd catch him, he'd run and hide."

Cameron has multiple felony warrants for crimes related to explosives, assault, and burglaries in addition to pending charges for eluding police, stolen vehicles, stolen firearms and trafficking stolen property.

What happened

Skagit County Sheriff’s office says deputies stopped a car in Mount Vernon about 12:30 p.m. Monday because they believed it had been involved in a reported burglary.

Once stopped, Cameron, who was in the front passenger seat, took off on foot.

Deputies believe Cameron is armed but no shots were fired.

The driver of the vehicle is in custody.

Washington's Most Wanted reports that Cameron’s crimes have happened all across Skagit County, but that he frequents eastern parts of the county from Day Creek to Rockport

Deputies said he was “armed and dangerous” and has put the public in jeopardy while eluding police.
