Police: Thurston County sheriff's deputy fatally shoots Lakewood man holding gun outside Lucky Eagle Casino

ROCHESTER, Wash. -- A Thurston County sheriff's deputy fatally shot a 55-year-old Lakewood man who was brandishing a pistol in the parking lot of the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester Tuesday night, the sheriff's office said Wednesday.

The sheriff's office said a family member reported that a 55-year-old Lakewood man left his home acting erratically and armed with a pistol. A Thurston County deputy later located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Lucky Eagle Casino, and the man got out of the vehicle armed with a pistol and refused orders to drop the weapon, the sheriff's office said.

"The deputy fired his duty pistol and struck the man several times," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "He was flown to St. Peters Hospital in Olympia where he was pronounced deceased."

The deputy wasn't injured, the sheriff's office said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Region Three Critical Incident Investigation Team that includes investigators from Lewis, Mason, Grays Harbor and Pacific counties. The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is the lead agency for the investigation.
