Police fire on car that backed toward officers in Seattle neighborhood

SEATTLE --  Police opened fire on a car in Seattle's Eastlake neighborhood after authorities say the driver backed the vehicle suddenly toward officers.

About 8:20 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 2200 block of Yale Avenue East for a report of suspicious activity possibly involving a weapon.

When officers arrived they found several suspects sitting in a black Subaru Impreza.

Seattle Police Detective Patrick Michaud said officers were approaching the car on foot when the suspects backed the vehicle toward the officers very quickly.

Officers then opened fire, possibly hitting the vehicle.

As department policy, the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
