Pierce County sheriff's deputy fatally shoots man in Midland
TACOMA, Wash. -- A Pierce County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man Thursday night in Midland, the sheriff's department said.
Spokesman Jerry Bates said deputies responded to a call at 10:17 p.m. of a suicidal man in his 40s armed with a knife in the 2000 block of 78th Street Court East. Bates said the man was possibly high on drugs and upset about a breakup.
A confrontation led to one of the deputies firing his weapon and killing the man, Bates said.
The deputies were not injured, he added.
