Wildfire that forced evacuations near Arlington is contained

ARLINGTON, Wash. --  About seven homes were evacuated as precaution when a wildfire broke out outside Arlington Thursday, authorities said.

Just before 9 p.m. the Washington Department of Natural Resources tweeted that crews and bulldozers had made a fireline, put down hoses and held the '99th Drive Fire' to just 3 to 4 acres.

The brush and timber fire started mid-afternoon along 99th Avenue NE and 240th outside Arlington, in Arlington Heights, according to the sheriff's office.

The cause was not immediately known.

Authorities at first reported that 25 homes were under mandatory evacuation orders, but later said that only seven homes had actually been evacuated.
