Tacoma officers unhurt after man shoots at them; suspect killed



TACOMA, Wash. -- Authorities are investigating a fatal officer involved shooting in the 5600 block of South Lawrence Street in Tacoma.

Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said three officers responded to a call about 3:20 p.m. Sunday of an agitated man armed with multiple firearms.

Shortly after the officers arrived, the man began firing at them.

Authorities say multiple rounds were fired by the suspect and the officers at the scene.

The incident ended with the suspect being shot. He was pronounced dead by medical aids at the scene. He has not been identified.

Cool said the three officers involved in the shooting were not injured.

They are a 35-year-old male, employed with the City of Tacoma for 3 years; a 38-year-old male, employed with the City of Tacoma for approximately 14 years; and a 47-year-old male who has been employed with the City of Tacoma for approximately 22 years.

The officers were placed on paid administrative leave per department policy.

The investigation is in the preliminary stage and information will be released when it is available and appropriate.
