Multiple spinouts reported on Snoqualmie Pass, including one fatal crash
CLE ELUM, Wash. -- There were multiple collisions Tuesday on both sides of Snoqualmie Pass including one fatality, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Brian Moore.
Moore said one car going too fast for conditions rolled over around 6 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-90 just east of Cle Elum. One person was killed and another taken to the hospital in critical condition, he said.
It was heavily snowing and there were numerous other collisions reported Tuesday on both sides of Snoqualmie Pass, Moore said.
Another collision involved an overturned semi that landed on top of a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup suffered only minor injuries, Moore said.
Trooper Moore advised drivers to slow down and avoid driving through the area if possible. Eastbound traffic was scheduled to be shut down around 1 p.m. for avalanche control work.
Chains required on all vehicles except all wheel drive, Oversize Vehicles Prohibited for both east and westbound traffic. Here are the latest Snoqualmie Pass conditions from WSDOT as of 1:45 p.m.:
"Compact snow and ice on the roadway. Avalanche Control is under way eastbound at milepost 50. Eastbound traffic is stopped at milepost 47, Denny Creek. Westbound traffic will not be impacted. Avalanche control generally takes from 20 minutes to two hours to complete. Once WSDOT crews assess the snow volume brought down by the blast, an estimated reopen time can be determined."
