Richard Sherman gives back to families in need this holiday

RENTON, Wash. -- Richard Sherman is giving back to fans in a big way, not on the field but through his Blanket Coverage Foundation.

On  Monday night, the Seahawks weren't practicing.  They were focused on presents from the man who gifts his fans so much on the field.

Through his Blanket Coverage Foundation, Sherman is giving back even more, buying Christmas presents for more than 25 families who couldn’t have afforded them otherwise and offering an experience filled with pictures and autographs.

“It’s a season of giving in our foundation and our foundation looks to give to people, and I think that’s what it’s about is making the world a better place than when you came in and that’s what we’re trying to do,” said Sherman.

One of the recipients this year is 17-year-old Precious Jamerson, who says Sherman has inspired her to do more when she grows up.

“He just wants to show others, just because you came from a hard lifestyle doesn’t mean you can give up,” said Jamerson. “You have to start pushing yourself. That’s why he’s here inspiring us to do better.”

It’s an event Sherman doesn’t do alone, but with his fiancé Ashley Moss, who hand-selected each gift.

“I do all the shopping, whether it’s me at Walmart and Target, and people are upset with me because the line takes so long,” said Moss.

Santa Sherman also had his elves close by in the form of teammates and supporters who know the importance of taking the fun they have on the field and off the field.

“We just get to spend this time uninhibited by anything but just being joyful,” said Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin.

At Saturday’s game, the team will also provide opportunities for fans to join the prevent youth homelessness campaign. Every dollar donated to Cocoon House, a home that reaches out to at-risk kids, will be matched by Paul Allen.

Fans will be able to make donations to the Cocoon House at the concession stands or by buying a Seahawks blanket.
