Mother, infant son found with throats slit in bed at Texas home

FORT WORTH, Texas -- An autopsy shows that a mother and her infant son found dead inside their Texas home last week both died from  similar cuts to the neck, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner announced Sunday.

Shanna Vandewege and her family had recently moved to Fort Worth from Colorado, a family friend told KDVR.

It was just after Thanksgiving when Vandewege posted this photo, with her husband Craig by her side and their 3-month-old son Diederek nestled between them:

Vandewege and her infant son were found lifeless in bed Thursday -- inside their home on Cactus Flower Drive, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The medical examiner has ruled both of their deaths homicides caused by a cut to the neck, the paper reported.

Neighbors described them as friendly and good neighbors.

They say they never saw anything suspicious at the home. That is until Thursday night, when police cars lined their street.

"This is just shocking," one neighbor told CNN-affiliate KTVT.  "This is a quiet neighborhood, we don't have any problems, not even any thefts that I know of."

Fort Worth police say they received a call from Saginaw police, saying that a man had come home to find the bodies.

Homicide detectives have not made an arrest, and said they are not immediately ruling anyone out as a possible suspect.

That makes neighbors uneasy.

“Was it somebody personal, or is there someone in the neighborhood, that someone is casing this neighborhood?" KTVT quoted one resident as asking.

Police have not released any information about a potential suspect.
