Icy roads delay dozens of schools; multiple crashes bring I-5 to standstill

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Icy roads caused multiple crashes bringing the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 to a standstill Thursday morning.

Washington State Patrol troopers say some drivers slid off the freeway south of Olympia because of snow and ice. Drivers were being diverted off the freeway at the Mayfield exit until about 7 a.m. One lane has since reopened. There were no serious injuries, troopers said.



Dozens of Western Washington school districts delayed schools because of the below-freezing temperatures.
