Tacoma General nurses say hospital is understaffed

TACOMA, Wash. -- Dozens of Tacoma nurses left the hospital Wednesday morning for the picket lines. They’re demanding extra staffing at Tacoma General Hospital.

The nurses say they are caring for more than the nationally recommended number of patients and being called in almost daily to pick up extra hours and extra shifts.

The rally against chronic understaffing comes just days before a strike vote.

Over the past year, the nurse's union says they have worked without a contract. They will continue to fight for national staffing standards.

It's not about the money or raises; these nurses say it's about hiring more people.
