National Park Service: 250 seasonal job openings this summer in Pacific Northwest parks

SEATTLE -- The National Park Service announced Wednesday that it will have more than 250 seasonal job openings for the summer 2017 in more than 10 parks across the Pacific Northwest.

The NPS said the openings are for a wide variety of positions, including backcountry rangers, entrance station fee collectors, archeologists, motor vehicle operators, carpenters and more. The jobs are available at multiple national park sites in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Many jobs range in pay from $14 to $20 an hour.

“What better way to spend a summer than getting paid to work and live in a national park,” said Pacific West Regional Director Laura Joss. “Seasonal jobs are a great way to get your start with the National Park Service, whether you are beginning your career or looking for a change.”

The NPS said applications must be submitted on the website USAJobs.gov. The site can be easily searched from the home page by entering “National Park Service” in the keywords field and any state name, such as Washington, in the location field. Applicants may create a profile on the website in advance to save time once the hiring process begins, which is recommended.

Application timelines vary depending on the specific position, and some are open for only a short period. Those interested in finding more information about a specific position are encouraged to contact the national park hosting the position.

The agency said more than 20,000 National Park Service employees care for America’s 413 national parks and work with communities across the nation to help preserve local history and create close-to-home recreational opportunities.
