Light snow falls in Lewis, Thurston, Pierce counties, but most of us will just get icy roads

SEATTLE - Break out the Chapstick.

It's going to be plenty cold enough to snow the rest of the week, but things will so dry that most people in Western Washington likely won't have to worry about it, Q13 News meteorologist Walter Kelley said Wednesday evening.

"Thursday will be dry and sunny for most, but very cold," Kelley said. "Friday will be sunny, icy and very cold. Highs Thursday and Friday will only get to 34 degrees.

"Brrrr."

The worst of it - assuming you see cold as "worst" - will come Friday, when the low is expected to hit 24 degrees.

Some outlying areas saw snow Wednesday night. Lewis County was getting a few hours of light snow, but would be dry in time for the morning's commute. Thurston County and southeast Pierce County were also getting light snow.

"Lewis County is seeing the most snow, but some fast-moving snow showers can make it all the way up to Seattle before 4 a.m. Pierce County was seeing some snow at 10:45 p.m. One computer model even shows ½ inch of snow for Tacoma overnight. But no snow is expected north of Seattle," Kelley said.

As for the weekend?

"Saturday will be dry, but Saturday night we invite some rain, or rain-and-snow mix, or even snow for some," Kelley said.
