Freezing fog in Everett this morning

EVERETT, Wash. -- An unusual phenomenon occurred in Everett. Along East Marine View Drive, Q13 reporter John Hopperstad discovered snow fog or freezing fog.

It happens when the water vapor in fog is super-cooled filling the air with small ice crystals which look like very light snow.

It’s similar to when ice forms inside a freezer.

“We called it ‘Glittering’ at work because it looked like glitter was falling from the sky,” Tosha Edwards wrote on our Facebook page.

That light snow caused by fog collected on streets and cars Wednesday morning in Everett.
