CAPTURED: Everett Police arrest suspect in armed robbery at coffee stand

UPDATE -- Everett Police have arrested a suspect accused of robbing the Espresso Avenue coffee stand. Q13 News is not naming him until the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office officially charges him with the crime.

EVERETT, Wash – Video surveillance caught the moment a 20-year-old barista was held up at gunpoint while working alone Friday night at an Everett coffee stand.

The woman, Chloe Duchesne, said the man approached the Espresso Avenue stand asking for change for a dollar, before covering his face and demanding all the cash.

“I had heard of scenarios like that before, where people do that to see your till,” said Duchesne. At the time, her radar went off, she said , but she obliged the man’s request.

Video surveillance shows Duchesne opening her Espresso Avenue register to make change for a dollar just after 7 p.m. Friday, and when she looks up the man’s face is covered and a gun is drawn.

“The bandana was over his face and the silver gun was pointed right at me,” said Duchesne. “He said, ‘Actually, give me all your money. Right now!’ in a very angry way.”

Everett Police are looking for the suspect Duchesne described as a Hispanic male with a shaved head, wearing a red bandana.

“I immediately handed him the drawer with all the till and I handed him my tips,” she said. Duchesne said the man argued with her, demanding more cash. “Bigger bills,” she said.

“That’s when I was praying that I hoped he wouldn’t ask for more because I had no more at that point.”

Immediately after she prayed, she said the man ran off. Video cameras catch him grabbing the entire register drawer and running out of frame. Duchesne said she believes another customer driving up to the stand potentially scared the man away.

“I am just very grateful that the Lord was protecting me,” she said.

Anyone with information on the man shown in the surveillance video is urged to call Crimes Stoppers of Puget Sound. Submit a tip online or call 1-800-222-TIPS.
