5 bullets fired at Pierce County Sheriff's Department building in Bonney Lake

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. -- Deputies are searching for the person responsible for shooting five bullets into a sheriff's department building in Bonney Lake.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the detachment was hit with bullets at 10:21 p.m. on Saturday.

Two deputies were inside the building when the shots were fired, but nobody was hurt.

Investigators believe the suspect or suspects parked a car, walked into the parking lot and then fired directly at the building within about 100 feet.

Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor released the following statement:

"This crime is a direct attack on our Deputies.  But it is also an attack on the entire community. If you attack the people who keep citizens safe, you attack the foundation of safety in the community. Whatever the motivation for this action, it is dangerous and it is flat unacceptable." If someone has the twisted idea that this is an opportune time to strike out at law enforcement, they will learn that they are sorely mistaken."
