How much lowland snow will we get next week? Forecasts disagree significantly

SEATTLE – Next week will almost certainly bring some snow.

The big question is, how much.

Q13 News meteorologist M.J. McDermott said the forecast shows a high probability that there will be some lowland snow Monday morning, while wildly divergent models show that Wednesday could bring anything from sunshine to a very heavy snowstorm.

McDermott said Monday morning will likely bring two-hour delays from some schools, and that it could happen virtually anywhere in Western Washington.

“The most likely spots would be Olympia southward, along Hood Canal in the lee of the Olympics, and our northern counties – Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish - along with higher hills and foothills communities,” she said. “By 10 a.m., it looks like we warm up enough that the snow will be mainly in the mountains.”

Tuesday looks dry and cold, with highs in the upper 30s and overnight lows in the 20s, while Wednesday presents the big question mark.

“One computer model has us dry and cold, another has Snowmageddon,” McDermott said. “This is 7 days out, so it is VERY UNCERTAIN! Just giving you a heads up.”
