Standoff in progress after officer shot and killed in E. Tacoma home



UPDATE: The police officer shot multiple times while responding to a domestic call in East Tacoma on Wednesday night has died, Officer Loretta Cool said.

TACOMA, Wash. - A police officer was shot multiple times while responding to a domestic call in East Tacoma on Wednesday night just before 5:30 p.m., police said.

The officer was sent to Tacoma General Hospital, and officer Loretta Cool said shortly after 7 p.m. that he was undergoing surgery.

There was no word on the extent of his injuries.

Law enforcement sources say the suspects fired at police after the initial shooting, and that police had to go in and pull the officer out.



The shooting happened in the 400 block of E. 52nd St.

Police said the suspect was barricaded in the home.
