Happy Birthday! Emma Morano, the world's oldest person turns 117

Emma Morano credits eggs and spending time with loved ones for her longevity. She can pretty much say whatever she wants, though, because Morano is the world's oldest person. She turns 117 this week.

Morano was born on November 29, 1899. She is the last known person alive to have been born in the 19th century.

She knew a world without sliced bread. For real! The automatic bread slicer, invented by Otto Rohwedder of Iowa, was first used in 1928 when Morano was 30 years old.

But back to the longevity thing. Morano really does eat a lot of eggs.

“I eat two eggs a day, and that’s it. And cookies. But I do not eat much because I have no teeth,” she said.

She began eating eggs in her teens when a doctor prescribed them to treat anemia. Since then, Morano has eaten more than 100,000 eggs!

Morano also credits fighting the added temptation of holiday treats, spending time with loved ones, and genetics. Morano’s mother died at 91 and at least two of her sisters lived to be over 100.

Happy birthday, Emma Morano!
