‘It means a lot to a lot of people’: Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission makes Thanksgiving dinner for homeless

SEATTLE - Volunteers are helping Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission serve Thanksgiving dinner to those living on the streets. They are preparing 75 turkeys along with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and other sides for close to 1,500 people at several different shelters across the city.

“A lot of work went into this and a lot of love went into it so it means a lot to a lot of people,” said volunteer Chris Ivey.

Early Thursday morning, volunteers helped make breakfast at the shelter and started to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. The Union Gospel Mission expected over 100 volunteers throughout the day.

“There are more of us who care about people in need than there are people in need, but that means all of us need to do something,” said mission president Jeff Lilley.

The Union Gospel Mission makes the Thanksgiving dinner every year.
