Detectives search Tukwila for remains in Green River case

TUKWILA, Wash. -- King County sheriff’s detectives searched an area on South 178th Street near Interstate 5 Saturday looking for remains of a possible victim of the Green River Killer, who murdered dozens of girls and women in Washington state in the 80s and 90s.

Detectives did not disclose if they found anything.

This is the second evidence search this month. Last week, detectives looked through a wooded area near Duvall.

Both searches were based on continuing re-evaluation and analysis of information learned from serial killer Gary Ridgway in 2003.

These were the first searches of these sites. Neither site was specifically identified, or pinpointed by Ridgway.

On November 30, 2001, Ridgway was arrested for the murders of four women whose cases were linked to him through DNA evidence. As part of a plea bargain, he agreed to disclose the locations of still-missing women. Ridgway was spared the death penalty and received a sentence of life imprisonment.

In 2003, Ridgway was convicted of killing 49 women but said he likely committed over 71 murders. Many of the women’s bodies have not been found.
