DETROIT — This photo of an abandoned dog sleeping on a mattress outside the house where his former owners allegedly left him could make any heart break.

Inside Edition reports a man who lived next door to the family said even though they returned home to get some belongings, they left the pit bull behind. He  posted this photo to a Facebook page for dogs and reportedly asked local shelters in Detroit to come and take him, but no one did.

That was until Mike Diesel saw the post and decided to help Boo. He’s the founder of Detroit Youth and Dog Rescue.

Mike drove out to visit Boo — sitting with him for hours. When he thought Boo was comfortable with him, he took the dog to a veterinarian.

Boo is now getting the help he needs and is doing better, but will still need continued medical care.
