Gabrielle Giffords, Gov. Inslee, make final push for gun control initiative

SEATTLE -- Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Governor Jay Inslee and gun violence survivors marched in Seattle Saturday to get out the vote for Washington's Initiative 1491, a gun control legislation that will be on the November ballot.

Giffords told the crowd to be courteous and that the nation is counting on everyone to come together.

"Stopping gun violence takes courage. The courage to do what's right. The courage of new ideas," Giffords said.

Initiative 1491 will allow family members and law enforcement to ask a judge to temporarily suspend a person’s access to firearms if there is documented evidence that the person poses a serious threat to themselves or others.

Other speakers include Marilyn Balcerak whose son James took his own life and shot and killed his step-sister and Nicole Hockley who lost her son at Sandy Hook Elementary.

Supporters marched from the Space Needle to First United Methodist Church at 180 Denny Way.
