One killed, two drivers arrested after overnight crashes on I-5 in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Two suspected DUI collisions shut down a section of I-5 overnight through Pierce County.

Washington State Patrol says one person was killed and two drivers were arrested early Friday morning.

Overnight, troopers say one of the drivers hit several cars on southbound I-5 near SR 512. A passenger in one of the cars was killed.

A short time later, troopers say another driver plowed through some orange construction barrels near the scene of the first accident. The driver then hit another car.

State Patrol is investigating these as two separate accidents. In total, six cars were involved in both crashes.

The drivers who caused each accident were arrested for driving under the influence, according to troopers.
