Woman accused of prying open mailboxes in University District arrested for theft

UPDATE -- Seattle Police say the suspect accused of breaking into mailboxes in the University District is in the King County jail for a previous theft charge.  She was arrested October 16.

Take a look at these photos of a woman Seattle police are trying to identify.

Detectives say she broke into as many mailboxes as she could in an apartment building on 11th Ave. N.E. in the University District of Seattle on October 14th.

In one shot from surveillance video, she’s got her arms loaded up with packages that other people were expecting.,

"She's wearing a coat with a hoodie on it but most of the time, the hoodie is down,” says Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. “You're going to get a pretty good look at this female and you watch her and in a couple of clips, she's taking that tool and she's just going after this box and she's even going back with two hands and she finally breaks this one mailbox. Well, that isn't enough for her. She breaks into 21 of them. This is very frustrating. People are expecting things. Social security checks, they're expecting birthday cards and they think because it's a locked mailbox it should be safe and well it should be." But, not with thieves like this woman roaming around.

Detectives say she's in her 30's, 5'3" with a heavy build, blond hair and bright colored tennis shoes.
