REDMOND, Wash. — Firefighters rescued a man Tuesday morning who was inside of a dumpster and dropped into a garbage truck.

According to the Redmond Police Department, a Waste Management truck emptied the dumpster on NE 80th St near Redmond Elementary School. The worker heard the man yelling and immediately stopped the truck and called for help.

Firefighters rescued the man from the truck and were checking him for any possible injuries.

Crews were clearing the scene around 7:30 a.m. No further details were released.

Waste Management provided the following tips for customers:

  • Keep dumpster lids closed. If you have a lock for your dumpster, remember to keep it locked when not in use or being serviced.
  • Check inside and around your dumpster periodically for signs of use other than for containing trash and recycling.
  • Contact local authorities or a community homeless shelter if you suspect a person is in need of support services.
  • If you believe someone is inside a dumpster, call local authorities immediately.
