Jake Browning suddenly in running for Heisman Trophy

SEATTLE – As if it’s not enough the Washington Huskies have played their way into the conversation for the College Football Playoff, quarterback Jake Browning is suddenly being mentioned as a serious contender for the Heisman Trophy.

Browning, a sophomore, was 22-for-28 passing in Saturday’s 70-21 win over the Oregon Ducks, throwing six touchdowns and no interceptions. He leads the nation with 23 touchdown passes this season for the undefeated Huskies, who are ranked No. 5 in the nation.

At least one betting website lists Browning as the fourth-best shot to win the Heisman at 10-1 odds. USA Today ranks him third.

One sportswriter who votes for the Heisman tweeted Monday that Browning is his No. 1 pick.

No Husky has ever won the Heisman. Steve Emtman came closest in 1991, finishing fourth.
