Fourth school considers forfeit against Archbishop Murphy High

BOTHELL, Wash. -- Cedar Park Christian School is the latest school considering a forfeit against powerhouse Archbishop Murphy High School. Cedar Park Christian School's Superintendent Dr. Clint Behrends released a statement Friday saying the school is conducting a survey with families to see if there is a willingness of players.

"Our present intent is to the fulfill the obligation to play if we have willing players. We are currently in the process of surveying families and coaches to assess options," he said in a statement released to Q13 News. "Our desire is to respect every parent and their God-given obligation to raise their children as God leads. If we do not have enough players, Cedar Park Christian will forfeit the game."

Archbishop Murphy's game against Cedar Park Christian is the team's homecoming game that is scheduled to be played on October 14.

If Cedar Park Christian forfeits, it will be the fourth school after Granite Falls High School announced a forfeit earlier this week after parents cited safety concerns.

Archbishop Murphy held a press conference on Wednesday to express disappointment and frustration.

South Whidbey, Sultan, and Granite Falls have all forfeited their games to Archbishop Murphy so far. Archbishop Murphy dominated their first three games against Issaquah, Bishop Blanchet and King's with a combined 170-0 score.

The forfeits have raised the question whether private schools should play in the same conference with public schools. However, the WIAA has said that schools decide which conference they will participate. WIAA determines classifications. The WIAA announced it is offering counsel and assistance to the schools in the Cascade Conference following the forfeits.
