Voter Guide: Race for Washington Secretary of State

SEATTLE -- This has become one of the most contentious races on the November ballot.  The Washington secretary of state oversees elections.

They file and verify initiatives before they end up on the ballot.  They register licenses from corporations, trademarks, and charities.  They also preserve the state's historical records.

Kim Wyman, a Republican, has been secretary of state since 2013. Before that, she served as the Thurston County auditor.

The challenger, Tina Podlodowski, is a Democrat.  She’s also been a member of the Seattle City Council and a director at Microsoft.

They differ greatly on many issues, including whether partisanship should play a role in the job.
