Woman arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run DUI hours after posting Instagram pic of new Mercedes

COSTA MESA, Calif. – A 22-year-old California woman allegedly ran down a bicyclist with her "new pride and joy" – a Mercedes Benz that she posed with in an Instagram photo just hours before the accident, according to the Orange County Register.

Police say Aya Ibish, of Laguna Beach, drove off after hitting the cyclist with her luxury sedan, leaving him with "lacerations and, possibly, a lower-leg fracture," Sgt. Dan Miles told the paper.

The cyclist managed to give officers a description of the car, and police searched the area around 19th Street and Monrovia Avenue for a Mercedes with damage to the hood or front end.

Police pulled Ibish over after spotting a vehicle fitting the description, with a mangled front end. After a field sobriety test, police arrested Ibish on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury and felony hit-and-run causing injury, according to Miles.

Just hours before the arrest, Ibish, wearing a black top and torn jeans, posed in an Instagram photo with a brand new Mercedes, complete with a red bow on the hood. That photo was later deleted from the account.

OC Weekly called the arrest – which became fodder for Taiwan-based animated news outlet Tomo – "the kind of story that reinforces negatives stereotypes that Orange County just can't shake."
