Moviegoer describes scene during the Cascade Mall shooting

BURLINGTON, Wash. -- Joanne Burkholder was watching the movie "The Magnificent Seven" Friday night at the Cascade Mall in Burlington. The 19-year-old said she was unaware of the shooting until uniformed officers interrupted the movie and forced them to evacuate.

After that, it was terrifying.

Burkholder told Q13 FOX News that she heard screaming as they were escorted out into the parking lot.

"When we got out, I saw people trying to get back in to find their spouses and stuff. The terror on their faces... was just overwhelming," she said. "You saw the officers go and lock down the doors and run against it to make sure nobody could get in or out. It was terrifying."

Adding that the reality of the situation didn't really "soak in" until much later.

"I never believe in my entire life that this would happen in a small town. I always thought it might happen in Everett, Seattle, or maybe at an airport or bar, but not in a mall."

Police are still searching for the gunman who opened fire Friday evening in Burlington’s Cascade Mall, killing five people.

Police said they do not yet have an identity of the suspect. He was still on the loose at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, police said, and there was no indication of his whereabouts.
