Teen dies after car hits tree in Pierce County

PIERCE COUNTY - A teenage girl died Sunday after the car she was riding in hit a tree in Pierce County.

Investigators say three teenage girls were in the car on 160th Street East when it went airborne at the crest of a hill, then the car went off the road into some trees.

A teen in the passenger seat named Mackenzie Martin  was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver and another teen suffered only minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. Authorities say they were wearing seatbelts.

No word on the exact ages of the victims.
